Ben Stowers's Georgia Story

I support the Georgia Conservancy because of their unique ability to be a collaborator, a consensus builder, and a leading voice for conservation in Georgia.

I was born at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, raised in the suburbs of West Cobb County, grew up hiking and hunting in the Georgia woods with my father and grandfather, and have always been a lover of Georgia's wild places and wild things. But it was during my time working for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources that I first ran across the Georgia Conservancy and came to really admire the respect they commanded from almost any environmental perspective.

Rabbit hunting with my grandfather and hiking with my father instilled in me a love for our natural world. Watching the balancing act of a state appropriations process when faced with challenges in public safety, education, healthcare and other issues made me realize the importance of the citizen advocate and the personal responsibility we all have to conserve and protect our natural resources.

In my short 31 years, I’ve learned that we all have come to appreciate our state’s natural and cultural resources in a variety of ways, but there are many who do not share this appreciation. There have been a number of great conservation victories in the past, but often it was work done by very few. Going forward, the responsibility will lie with all of us to conserve and protect our natural resources and that's why I support the Georgia Conservancy.

Please consider supporting my Georgia story by becoming a member of the Georgia Conservancy with a $50 donation to my campaign.

ABOUT Georgia Conservancy's 50 for 50th Fundraising Drive

Over the next 12 months we’re raising the bar: conserving more than 30,000 - 35,000 acres of land, educating more than 3,500 people in “Georgia’s outdoor classroom” that we call our trips program, and helping thousands of students and parents breath a little easier with our school siting workshops. But, truthfully, the issue that gives us great concern is maintaining steady handed advocacy on behalf of the gem of Georgia’s coast: Cumberland Island

With so much to do, we’ve had to expand annual fundraising goals. We’re currently $50,000 behind our expanded funding needs and we need your help.

For our 50th Anniversary, we've asked some of our most important donors and members to share their Georgia story as a Georgia Conservancy Storyteller.

Thank you for supporting our storytellers and the Georgia Conservancy!
